Our Story

Marian Meets Kamo

Our story begins in high school. Kamo and I were in the same organic chemistry class during our senior year, where we sat next to each other. We often had playful banter and I would remind him that March 20th was the most important day because it brought spring, and of course, it was my birthday. We naturally developed a friendship and I left highschool with fond memories of him. But much like what I expected to happen to the majority of my high school friendships, I thought me and Kamo’s friendship would fizzle out as we moved on to separate colleges and began our adult lives.

13 years had passed. In that time, I became a physician and was doing my residency training in emergency medicine in New Orleans, and he became a tax lawyer, working in Washington, DC. Interestingly, we were both at Howard University pursuing our professional degrees, but never crossed paths. It wasn’t until the heart of the pandemic, in March 2021, when we reconnected. Prior to him sliding back into my life, I had a sense of peace and assuredness. I was talking to God, asking him to bless me with a partner who fulfilled my long list of must haves. God said “heard you”. Not too long after, Kamo slid into my DM’s online. He started off by wishing me a happy birthday month, reminding me that he has not forgotten my birthday from our highschool conversations. And then he asked me out. We were in two separate parts of the country, so I figured we’d go out whenever I'm back in DC visiting family. Apparently that timeline wasn’t going to cut it. He said he's coming for his wife right away lol. He drove down 16 hours from DC to New Orleans to take me out on a date. And since then, God has aligned so many things in our lives that have reaffirmed that we are truly meant to be together. I am excited to spend my forever with my love. <3

First, by circumstance. Kept me in a trance. One chance. We danced. And found romance.

First by circumstance.

Our story begins in high school. We studied benzenes in orgo, and the universe blessed me with a seat directly behind her.

Won’t He Do It?

Kept me in a trance.

She was the most beautiful thing, and she was distracting every time she turned to face me. No one woman had a right to be that beautiful and that accomplished: A cheerleader, and a charmer. A dancer, bound for the Ivy League.

Consummate. She made fanfare about her birthday, and I’d forever hold on to that.

One chance.

13 years later, I asked God to prepare me for marriage. And as He did, He reminded me about a woman named Marian. I searched, and I found her. Her star had only risen, and I needed a plan.

Remember her birthday, Kamo. Get on her radar. Reconnect.

First: “Congratulations on all your success, Dr. Sackey.”

Then: “Happy Birth Month, madam.”

And then: “Happy Birth Week to the lady. I’d love to take you to dinner.”

Then on, from opposite ends of the country, we began to talk.

A Dance

Over the next 10 days, we prayed together, we laughed together, we dreamed, and we sang. It was clear: She was the one for me.

So, when she told me that she’d be free to meet in three days, I checked the plane tickets…

And I decided to drive. Yes, I drove 16 hours.

We met, and under starlight, we marched to Monica:

“You came into my life, straight from above / When I lost all hope, you showed me love /

“I’m gonna love you, oh you are so fine / Angel of Mine.”

We found romance.

And an angel now will be my wife.
